All business owners need to have an online presence.  E-commerce and online sales are a huge part of business today.  Understanding how your online business works can be complicated but vitally important.   Just like standing out from your main competitors is important, it is just as important to make your website stand out from the rest.

Know what you know and what you don’t know.  This is a good first step in being able to ask the right questions and partner with the right people.   You may be anywhere on the continuum for knowing about  how websites are built but know where you stand so you can ask the right people the right questions.

Prioritize.  Whether you want to contract out, do some of your website or do all of your website, there is no way you will e able to know all the ins and outs of what is available to you.  This is why we tell customers to prioritize.  Do you want to be a maven or your products and services OR do you want to be a maven for your website?  Know where to put your time, efforts and resources.

People work with those they trust.  When choosing a website designer, we  tell customers that it is a relationship.  Your business and your website will grow over time; it is not a static, one-time thing.  Even if your website is purely informational, that information will change over time.  To be recognized online, your website needs to be current and maintained from hacks, malware, and viruses.  Work with someone you trust so you know it will get done right.  if you don’t know what they are doing for you……ask!  A good web designer won’t mind working with all his/her customers on a regular basis.  In fact, it is what is expected.

Grow – even if it is slow.  Slow is better than no.  I order to maintain a stable business, you need to learn from mistakes, listen to your customers and adapt.  Every day, take time to learn something new.  Post an update.  Write a blog article.  Tweet what’s happening.  Call a customer.  Email your business partners.  Use multiple vehicles to be able to keep in touch with your customers and be open and accessible.

Try it and see if you like it.  Social media can be intimidating but you don;t have to be on every platform.  Try it and see if you like it but all social media should point to your home, your website.

Make Your Website Stand Out.  If you want to know more……Ask us how.
